On Saturday, December 28, 2019, Vernella Whittington (Money), loving mother of four children, passed away at the age of 78, in Bakersfield, CA.

Vernella was born on October 5, 1941 in Beaumont, TX to Henry and Lillie
(Richardson) Pickens. She attended Hebert High School and was a member of St. Peter Baptist Church. While living in Bakersfield, CA. she attended Church of Christ. She married her high school sweetheart, Adell Maxie Jr. They were blessed with a daughter, Debra Ann Maxie Smith on, April 17, 1959. Years later, Vernella married Carey Whittington Sr. with the love of that union came, Lillie June Whittington Hawkins, Freddie Marie Whittington Willard and Carey Whittington Jr.

Vernella attended West Tabernacle Baptist Church during her childhood along with her parents and siblings. She loved the Lord and believed it was her duty to give time and work in her church home. While living in Anahuac, she worked with the youth at First Missionary Baptist Church where she was the Vacation Bible School Coordinator. Upon returning to Beaumont, she continued her work with the youth, sang in the choir and was on the missionary board.

Vernella also had a passion for sewing, cooking, baking, doing hair. She loved her family dearly and was known for her kind and
compassionate spirit.

Vernella was preceded in death by her father, Henry, her mother, Lillie, her
stepmother, Alice, her husband, Carey Sr., and her daughter, Debra.

She is survived by her children, Lillie Hawkins (Kurt), Freddie Willard and Carey Whittington Jr. Grandchildren: John Smith, Tamesha Whittington, Kendrick Hawkins, Ashlei Hawkins, Jacy Nixon, Jason Nixon and Ferrill Grimes Whittington. Great Grandchildren: Mason, Laysen, Mariah, Azaria and London. One sister, Mrs. Inez Bridges and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and her care provider of 3 years, Marquitta Morgan.
