Rapheal Fontenot was born July 25, 1935 in Grand Prairie, Louisiana to the union of Cyrus and Anna Fontenot. He departed this earthly life at the age of 84 peacefully at home on February 5, 2020. Rapheal was united in marriage on October 15, 1955 to Alice Jacob Fontenot. They were married 64 years. To that union were born his three girls: Jerry Gloston, Cheryl Fontenot, and Elizabeth Lewis. He cared for his family as a farmer in the Grand Prairie area, and in Baldwin, Louisiana in the sugar cane fields. In 1966 he decided to move his family to Port Arthur, Texas. Here he supported for his family as a concrete mason and in the construction business. He was a Port Arthur resident for 53 years. Rapheal attended school at Ville Platte High School, Ville Platte, Louisiana. He was baptized in his early years at True Vine Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Louisiana. Upon uniting in marriage to Alice, they attended True Vine Baptist. He attended Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in his latter years. Ray, better known as “Pop” to all who knew and loved him was a wise and peaceful man who loved his family. He was strong and of good character. He taught us to “have a word” and to “be the best” in whatever endeavor we were involved in.
