Mary Belle Levy Francis 1929 – 2020
At the age of ninety surrounded by her family at home, Mary Belle Francis, peacefully
transitioned to be with the Lord.
Mary Belle was born September 15, 1929, in Beaumont, Texas to Edith Como-Levy and
Clifton Levy, Sr., and was the youngest of five children.
She was united in holy matrimony to her high-school sweetheart, Matthew Joseph
Francis, celebrating 72 years of marriage together. To that union three children were
born: Edith, Matthew (Jay) and Deborah.
Mary Belle was a faithful member of St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica for over 50 years. An
advocate for equal rights and fair treatment, you could always find her giving of her
time at the voting polls and actively volunteering her talents in ministries at the
Cathedral. She was known for her wit and strong personality, was a member of several
social groups, and enjoyed sewing and baking.
Mary Belle was proceeded in death by her parents, siblings: Roy Levy, Clifton Levy, Jr.
(Rose), Mildred Jacquo (Royal), and Rose Allison and grandchild Harold Smith.
Those left to celebrate her memory, are her devoted husband, Matthew Joseph Francis,
Sr. and three children: Edith Francis, Matthew Joseph Francis, Jr., Deborah Francis. Her
six grandchildren: Tifany Wilson (Derrick), Matthew Joseph Francis III (Krystal), Jeremy
Hagans, Andre’ Francis (Amanda), Kristin Francis, and Dennis Hagans and four great-
grandchildren: Matthew Joseph Francis IV, Kalynn Francis, Miles Wilson and Nolan
Wilson. Along with a host of family members, friends, and compassionate caregivers.
