Martha’s Life Story
On June 8, 1925, Martha Walters-Guidry was born in Devers, Texas to the late George Walters and Olivia Jones, she was the fourth of seven siblings. She was a 1943 graduate of Charlton-Pollard High School.

Martha married Lawrence Guidry in 1946. They were married for 51 years until his death in 1997.

Martha had four children Shirley, Elliott, Avis and Mary Serena. She was a devoted mother who worked lovingly and tirelessly to care for her children and later for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Martha was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 28, 1993 and continued to live in earnest devotion to her faith.

Martha inspired many as she fought her illness with PRIDE, STAMINA and COURAGE. On January 9, 2020, Martha fell asleep in death. The memories of her life will live forever. She lived a life of FAITH, LOVE and STRENGTH until the end with her family and friends by her side.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Guidry, son Elliott Guidry, daughter Avis Guidry, grandson David Guidry, great-grandsons Israel Manuel and Shaquille Dixon. Siblings, twin sister Mary Sostand, sisters Emma Thomas, Ella Simon, and Betty Bradley. Brothers John, David, and Davis Walters.

Martha leaves precious heart-felt memories to her devoted daughters Shirley Guidry Eli (James) and Mary Serena Guest (Hilary), daughter-in law, Barbara Guidry all of Beaumont. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, twenty-two great-great grandchildren along with a loving host of other relatives and friends.

Martha became the surrogate mother to most of her brother and sister’s children alone with her husband’s nephews and nieces.
