Howard “Sonny” Guidry Jr.

April 29, 1948 – July 24, 2020

Howard Guidry, Jr. was born April 29, 1948, to the late Mildred Scott Landry and Howard Guidry, Sr. in Beaumont, Texas.

Howard attended Blanchette Elementary and graduated from Hebert High School in 1966. After high school, Howard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for during the Vietnam War serving for four years.

Sometime later after leaving the Air Force, Howard obtained his commercial driver’s license (CDL). With his CDL, Howard drove city and school buses. Howard later became a truck driver for Mission Petroleum where he worked until his retirement. After his retirement, Howard worked for years for Sun Travel Charter Bus Company. Howard’s last place of employment was with Beaumont Independent School District as a security guard at Lucas Elementary School in Beaumont’s North End Community until his health began to fail.

Howard was the president of the City-Wide Ushers in which he served faithfully on the Usher Board of his home church, McKinley Ave. Baptist Church until his death. He was a devoted, and active member of McKinley Ave. Baptist Church whom he dearly loved with all his heart. He was also a member of The Dorie E. Miller American Legion and The Brother’s Club.

Howard left his earthly home to begin his journey to his Heavenly home on Friday, July 24, 2020 here in Beaumont.

Howard is preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Lee LaBeaux and stepfather, Amos Landry, Sr.

Memories of Howard are left to his wife of 41 years, Ella Mae Guidry; step-mother, Annie Bell Guidry; children, Amanthia Williams, Hollie Guidry, Chrishanda Guidry Taylor, Crystal LaToya Guidry, Howard Griffin, Fredrick Guidry and Kenneth Wayne Vallair; fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Essie Parker and step-sister, Bobbie Henry; a host of nieces, nephews, other family, friends and ushers members including the city-wide ushers.
