Eugene Simon, Jr.
November 26, 1946 – December 15, 2019
Eugene Simon, Jr. was born on November 26, 1946 to the late Eugene Simon, Sr. and Dorothy Polk Simon of Beaumont, Texas.
Eugene was baptized into Christ at Dowlen Road by Elder Westley Pollard, Sr. in 1993.
Eugene attended Charlton Pollard High School and graduated in 1964 with honors. Straight out of high school he was drafted into the Army and sent straight to Vietnam and served four honorable years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Simon, Sr., mother, Dorothy Polk Simon, and his sisters, Alice Marie, Berlen Simon, and Angela Simon.
Eugene’s love and memories will remain in the hearts of his brother, Walter Simon, (Gracy) of Dallas, Texas; sister Judy Simon Pollard (Westley); niece, Nichol Simon; aunt, Josie Syriie (Albert), of Beaumont, Texas and Aunt Sarah and T. Red of Morbihan, Louisiana. A host of first cousins, family and friends.
Eugene loved listening to his 1960’s and 70’s R&B soul wherever he went. Two weeks ago, Eugene requested five songs to be sang to him by the Dowlen Road youth, and they were Hosanna, I Stand in Awe, Into Thy Hands, Emmanuel God With Us, and We Will Glorify.
Eugene was known as a gentle giant to all that knew him.
Eugene had a family clan that included Westley Pollard, Jr. (Selena, Tre and Erica), Terry Pollard Matthews (Kasandra, Ashley, Amanda, Adrien, and Alyssa), Gary Pollard Matthews (Sebrina, Gracy, Courtney, and Marli).
Sebrina Pollard Matthews brought Eugene coffee Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and Amanda Pollard Matthews was his food carrier/personal waitress.
Also, Kasandra Matthews was his family resident nurse, that got him admitted to the hospital swiftly prior to his death.
