Edward Jason Taylor Sr.
February 1, 1982 – July 14, 2019
Edward Jason Taylor, Sr. was born on February 1, 1982 in Beaumont, Texas to Johnnie and Rosiland Taylor.
As a child Edward attended Greater Grace Temple COGIC. Ed (as he is fondly known) was the staple of the first graduating class of Clifton J. Ozen Magnet High School in 2000. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart Karen in 2002. Then he earned a bachelor’s degree from Lamar University. Ed attended the master’s program at Prairie View A&M University. He pursued a successful career in education as a Social Studies teacher, curriculum writer, a football, and track & field events coach. He was the Head Football Coach for his alma mater, Clifton J. Ozen Magnet High School of Beaumont Independent School District. His success never was marginalized only in the classroom, but in the lives of students, players, families and anyone he encountered.
Edward Taylor’s success as a coach stems from his educational philosophies and core values. First, he believed the more organized you are as a teacher the better coach you would become. In addition, he believed that anything supported by a fragile foundation will suffer; however, a powerful secure and indestructible foundation will last for a lifetime, eternity. One of the main core values he held as a teacher was building a foundation with students and players.
Outside of his profession, Edward had a love for singing, performing hilarious jokes, and residing as the “Pit-Master.” He would hype any pep rally to an extraordinary level that you couldn’t comprehend unless present. He was the life of the party and set a strong climate of love every place he inhabited. He will perpetually be in our hearts.
Coach Edward “Ed” Taylor departed this earthly life on Sunday, July 14, 2019. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie B. Taylor.
Edward is survived by his wife Karen Taylor; his children Edward Jason Taylor, Jr. and Kaitlyn Taylor; his mother Rosiland Taylor; his siblings Johnny Lee (Ruby), Monica Reynolds, Princess Peter (Abraham), Daniel Taylor (Brittany), Jerrica Stelly (Devonion) and Benjamin Taylor (Ashley); aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
