Ashton Thomas

February 20, 1945 – December 16, 2019

Ashton Thomas was born on February 20, 1945 to Roosevelt Thomas and Dora Joubert in Plaisance, Louisiana. On Monday, December 16, 2019, his earthly life ended and eternal life began when he was called home by his Heavenly Father. Ashton was born and raised in Plaisance, where he attended Plaisance High School, graduating there in 1964. Ashton was enlisted in the United States Army July 15, 1964 and was Honorably Discharged June 25, 1966 after serving in Vietnam. At the time of discharge decorations and medals included Marksman (Rifle M-14), National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Cal45 Pistol), and 1st Class (M60). During the 1970’s, Ashton owned a service station on the corner of Cleveland and Leight Street in Beaumont, TX. Through the late 1970’s, Ashton worked for Vic Oberg at the Oberg Service Center on Concord Road and Sampson Joubert’s Mobil Service Station on Magnolia Street. Ashton began his career at Jefferson County working in the Service Center August 6, 1984 and retired July 31, 2003.

On February 7, 1978, Ashton and Willie Mae united in Holy Matrimony and were blessed to raised five boys in a loving home. Ashton joined the Rising Sun Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member for more than 20 years. He then united with Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in 2009, where he devoted his time with various ministries such as Sunday School, Deacon’s Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Senior Citizens’s Ministry, Mission, and participated in Pastor’s Bible Class. His presence will be greatly missed by the church family. Various organizational accomplishments include Past Potentate of Nafud Temple #80, member of Pride of Beaumont #291, United Supreme Council 33rd degree, and member of Dorie E. Miller American Legion Post #817 for 48 years.

Ashton and Willie Mae were married nearly 38 years. Willie Mae went home to be with the Lord January 25, 2016. Family members that proceeded him in death are his parents; brothers, Roosevelt Thomas, John Thomas, and Erick Thomas, and nephew, Reginald Royce Coleman II. There are many family members who will cherish his life forever: Reginald Royce Coleman Sr. (Chandra), Bobby Roy Greer Jr., and Eric Duane Greer, all of Beaumont; Harmon Thomas of De Ridder, Louisiana, and James Whitmore Thomas (Kela) of Selma, Alabama; brother Andris Thomas (Madena) of Dickinson, Texas; grandchildren Brandon Coleman, Brandi Coleman, Brittini Tosin, Marcus Greer, Breonna Greer, Derrick Greer, Akailah Thomas, Aviah Thomas, Jasmine Thomas, Michael Thomas, Tia Thomas; great-grandchildren, Asauni Coleman, Keon Coleman, Braylen Tolson, Armani Coleman, Casey Coleman, Chynna Coleman, Bailee Coleman, and Jeremiah Greer. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends will cherish his memories in their hearts.
